Description

A creamy, slightly sweet Japanese-style dipping sauce perfect for seafood, vegetables, sushi, steak, or grilled meats.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 1/2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp water (to thin, optional)
  • Pinch of salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, and melted butter until smooth.
  2. Add rice vinegar, sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt; whisk until fully combined.
  3. If the sauce is too thick, add 1 tsp of water at a time to reach desired consistency.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning—add more sugar for sweetness, vinegar for tang, or paprika for color.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  6. Serve chilled and store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • For a smoky flavor, use smoked paprika.
  • May substitute rice vinegar with apple cider vinegar.
  • Adjust sugar to taste if you prefer a sweeter or less sweet sauce.
  • Makes a great dip for shrimp, crab cakes, or french fries.
  • Sauce thickens when chilled—thin with a bit of water before serving if needed.
