Description

A hearty and flavorful vegan black bean burger that’s easy to make and perfect for grilling or pan-frying.


Ingredients

  • 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons water (flax egg)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some chunks for texture.
  2. Add the breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, soy sauce, olive oil, cumin, smoked paprika, black pepper, and prepared flax egg.
  3. Mix until well combined; if the mixture is too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs.
  4. Form the mixture into 4 patties.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, until browned and heated through.
  6. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato, avocado, and vegan mayo.

Notes

  • Chill the patties for 30 minutes before cooking to help them hold their shape better.
  • You can also bake the patties at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Customize the flavor by adding chopped jalapeños, corn, or fresh cilantro.
