Description

Teriyaki Chicken is a classic Japanese-inspired dish featuring juicy, pan-seared chicken glazed in a glossy, sweet-savory teriyaki sauce. It’s quick, flavorful, and perfect served over steamed rice or vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • For the sauce:
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin (or rice vinegar with 1 tsp sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional for thickening)
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, honey, garlic, and ginger. Set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook 5–6 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Remove and slice if desired.
  3. Reduce heat to medium. Add the sauce to the pan and bring to a simmer. Stir in cornstarch slurry if using, and cook until sauce thickens slightly, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Return chicken to the pan, turning to coat in sauce.
  5. Serve over rice or vegetables, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for juicier, more flavorful results.
  • Marinate the chicken in the sauce for 30 minutes before cooking for deeper flavor.
  • Leftovers make great meal prep bowls with rice and steamed veggies.
