Description

Sweet Heat Smashed Potatoes are crispy roasted baby potatoes coated in a spicy, honey-infused glaze. This easy side dish combines the sweetness of honey with a kick of cayenne and smoked paprika for a flavorful twist on classic roasted potatoes. Perfect as a complement to any meal or as a tasty appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 1 ½ pounds baby potatoes (red or gold)

Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Garnish (Optional)

  • Chopped fresh parsley
  • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for roasting the potatoes until crispy.
  2. Boil Potatoes: Place the baby potatoes in a large pot of salted water and boil for 15–20 minutes, or until they are fork-tender. This softens the potatoes so they can be smashed easily.
  3. Drain and Dry: Drain the cooked potatoes in a colander and let them sit for 5 minutes to slightly dry so they’ll crisp up better in the oven.
  4. Smash Potatoes: Transfer the potatoes onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Using the bottom of a glass or measuring cup, gently press each potato until it is smashed but still intact, creating a flat surface for roasting.
  5. Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, melted butter, honey, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to create a flavorful glaze.
  6. Coat Potatoes: Generously brush the spicy honey glaze over each smashed potato, ensuring they’re well coated for maximum flavor and crispiness.
  7. Roast: Roast the glazed potatoes in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until they are crispy and golden brown around the edges.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley and flaky sea salt if desired. Serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • For extra heat, increase the cayenne pepper or drizzle hot honey on the potatoes just before serving.
  • These potatoes work great as a side dish or a flavorful appetizer.
  • You can use either red or gold baby potatoes depending on your preference.
