Description

Strawberry Cake Balls are sweet, bite-sized treats made from crumbled strawberry cake mixed with frosting and coated in a smooth layer of white chocolate. Perfect for parties, holidays, or gifting, these no-fuss cake balls are soft, flavorful, and irresistibly cute.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake

  • 1 box strawberry cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box to prepare)

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup strawberry or vanilla frosting

Coating and Decoration

  • 12 oz white chocolate or white candy melts
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil (optional, for smoother coating)
  • Pink or red sprinkles (optional, for decorating)

Instructions

  1. Bake the Cake: Prepare the strawberry cake according to the package directions, ensuring it is fully baked. Once done, allow the cake to cool completely to room temperature.
  2. Crumble the Cake: Break the cooled cake into a large bowl and crumble it into fine crumbs, making sure there are no large chunks left.
  3. Mix with Frosting: Add the frosting to the cake crumbs and mix thoroughly until the mixture becomes dough-like and holds together well.
  4. Form Cake Balls: Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls using your hands. Place each ball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Freeze: Place the baking sheet with the cake balls into the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes to firm up, making them easier to coat.
  6. Melt the Coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate or candy melts along with coconut oil in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the mixture is completely smooth.
  7. Coat the Cake Balls: Using a fork or a dipping tool, dip each chilled cake ball into the melted chocolate, tapping off any excess coating. Place the coated cake balls back onto the parchment paper.
  8. Decorate: While the coating is still wet, add pink or red sprinkles for a festive touch.
  9. Set the Coating: Allow the coated cake balls to set at room temperature or chill them in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens completely.

Notes

  • Use homemade strawberry cake and frosting for a completely from-scratch version.
  • Store the cake balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze the cake balls for longer storage and thaw before serving.
