Description

These Slow Cooker Dinner Rolls are soft, fluffy, and easy to make without an oven. Made with simple ingredients like flour, yeast, and butter, they rise beautifully and cook perfectly in a slow cooker, delivering warm, comforting homemade rolls ideal for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy to ensure the yeast is active.
  2. Mix dough: Add the melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until well combined. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead dough: Knead the dough for about 5–7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, preparing it for rising.
  4. First rise: Cover the dough and place it in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Prepare slow cooker: Line the bottom of the slow cooker with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  6. Shape rolls: Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each into a ball. Place them in the slow cooker spaced slightly apart.
  7. Cook rolls: Cover and cook on high for 1½ to 2 hours. The rolls will puff up and cook through but the tops will remain pale.
  8. (Optional) Broil tops: For a golden, crisp top, place the rolls under a broiler for 1–2 minutes after slow cooking.
  9. Serve: Brush the warm rolls with melted butter for a glossy finish and serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
  • For richer flavor and texture, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with bread flour.
  • These rolls are best served fresh but can be stored and reheated.
