Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
- 1 (20 oz) package frozen shredded hash browns, thawed
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 8 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Optional Garnish
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions or parsley
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking.
- Cook Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage thoroughly until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess grease if necessary.
- Mix Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Assemble Casserole: Spread the thawed hash browns evenly in the prepared baking dish. Layer the cooked sausage on top, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the sausage. Pour the egg mixture evenly over all the layers.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
- Rest and Garnish: Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped green onions or parsley if desired, then serve warm.
Notes
- Make ahead by assembling the casserole the night before, covering it tightly, and refrigerating. Bake fresh the next morning.
- Add diced bell peppers, spinach, or mushrooms to the casserole for extra vegetables and flavor.
- Ensure the sausage and hash browns are labeled gluten-free if following a gluten-free diet.
- For a lighter version, use turkey sausage and reduced-fat cheese.
