- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon oil (for frying)
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (extra for gravy)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the patties on both sides (about 3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add onions and mushrooms. Cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, ketchup, and additional Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer until slightly thickened.
- Return patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Notes
- For extra richness, use a mix of ground beef and pork.
- Make ahead and reheat gently on the stove or in the oven.
- Leftovers store well and taste even better the next day.
