Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- Red food coloring
- Blue food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt or loaf cake pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the flour. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly into three bowls. Leave one bowl plain (white), tint one red, and the other blue using food coloring.
- Spoon batters alternately into the prepared pan to create a marbled effect. Use a knife to gently swirl the colors together.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Do not over-swirl the batter to preserve the marble pattern.
- Gel food coloring provides more vibrant colors without altering the batter consistency.
- This cake can be topped with a simple glaze or served plain.
