Description

Delight in these elegant Puff Pastry Apple Roses, a beautiful and easy-to-make dessert featuring thinly sliced apples wrapped in flaky puff pastry with a touch of apricot jam and cinnamon. Perfect for impressing guests or enjoying a sophisticated snack any time.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry and Filling

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 2 red apples (such as Honeycrisp or Gala)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons apricot jam or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For Dusting (optional)

  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare muffin tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a muffin tin or line it with paper liners to prevent sticking when baking the apple roses.
  2. Slice apples: Cut the apples in half and remove the cores. Slice them very thinly to ensure they can be bent easily without breaking.
  3. Soften apples: In a microwave-safe bowl, toss the apple slices with juice of 1/2 a lemon and 2 tablespoons of water to prevent browning and add flavor. Microwave for about 2 minutes until the slices are slightly softened.
  4. Prepare puff pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut it lengthwise into 6 equal strips to form the base for the roses.
  5. Thin the jam: In a small bowl, mix the apricot jam or honey with 1 teaspoon of water. Microwave briefly to thin it out for easier spreading on the pastry strips.
  6. Assemble apple roses: Spread a thin layer of the thinned jam over each puff pastry strip. Arrange apple slices along the top half of each strip, overlapping slightly with the rounded edges of the apples facing outward for the rose petal effect. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon.
  7. Roll the roses: Fold the bottom half of each pastry strip up over the apple slices, then carefully roll from one end to the other to form a rose shape.
  8. Bake: Place each rolled rose into muffin cups and bake for 35–40 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
  9. Cool and serve: let the apple roses cool slightly before dusting them with powdered sugar if desired, then serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • Ensure apple slices are soft enough to bend without breaking before rolling to avoid cracking the pastry.
  • Using a mandoline slicer can help achieve uniformly thin apple slices for a more polished look.
  • These apple roses are best enjoyed the day they’re baked, as the puff pastry will remain crispest then.
