Description

This Praline Crunch recipe is a delightful and crunchy snack mix that combines crisp cereal with a rich, buttery praline coating. Perfect for holiday gifts, party treats, or a sweet snack, it features a sweet blend of brown sugar, corn syrup, and pecans baked to a satisfying crisp.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 8 cups Crispix cereal (or corn and rice cereal mix)
  • 1 cup pecan halves

Praline Coating

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Lightly grease a large rimmed baking sheet or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the Crispix cereal and pecan halves, tossing them together to combine.
  3. Make the Praline Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the light corn syrup and packed brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar. Once boiling, continue cooking for 2 to 3 minutes while stirring.
  4. Add Leavening and Flavor: Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the baking soda and vanilla extract. The mixture will foam; stir gently until combined.
  5. Coat the Cereal Mixture: Immediately pour the hot praline mixture over the cereal and pecans in the bowl. Gently stir to evenly coat all the pieces with the sticky praline sauce.
  6. Spread on Baking Sheet: Transfer the coated cereal mix onto the prepared baking sheet, spreading it into an even layer.
  7. Bake and Stir: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 1 hour. Stir the mixture every 15 minutes to ensure even baking and coating.
  8. Cool and Store: Remove the praline crunch from the oven and allow it to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, break it into pieces and store in an airtight container to preserve freshness.

  • You can substitute walnuts or almonds for the pecans if desired.
