Ingredients
Scale
Cookie Dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons milk (as needed)
Optional
- ½ cup melted dark or milk chocolate (for dipping)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to ensure cookies do not stick and bake evenly.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and powdered sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy, which helps create a tender cookie texture.
- Add Vanilla: Mix in the vanilla extract to add aromatic flavor to the dough.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt to evenly distribute the dry ingredients.
- Form Cookie Dough: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too stiff to pipe, incorporate 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until the consistency is ideal for piping.
- Pipe the Cookies: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip and pipe your desired shapes, such as rosettes or lines, onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are just set, ensuring they remain tender inside.
- Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely, which helps them firm up properly.
- Optional Chocolate Dip: Once cooled, dip the cookies halfway into melted chocolate and place them on parchment paper to set for a decadent finishing touch.
Notes
- Ensure the butter is very soft before starting to make piping easier and dough smoother.
- If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a cookie press to shape the cookies.
- Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to one week to maintain freshness.
- Add festive sprinkles on the melted chocolate coating to decorate and add texture.
