Description

Celebrate patriotic holidays with these festive Patriotic Crinkle Cookies featuring a soft, chewy texture and marbled red, white, and blue colors. Made from a white cake mix base and gel food coloring, these cookies are quick to prepare and perfect for 4th of July, Memorial Day, or any red-white-and-blue celebration.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 box white cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the white cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until a soft dough forms, ensuring all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  3. Divide and Color Dough: Divide the dough evenly into three separate bowls. Leave one portion plain (white), add a few drops of red gel food coloring to the second bowl and mix well, then add blue gel food coloring to the third bowl and mix until color is fully blended.
  4. Chill Dough: Chill all three dough portions in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes. This step firms the dough, making it easier to handle when forming the cookie balls.
  5. Form Cookie Balls: Scoop small amounts of each colored dough and gently press them together to create a 1-inch ball with a marbled red, white, and blue effect. Take care not to overmix to maintain the distinct colors.
  6. Coat with Powdered Sugar: Roll each marbled dough ball in powdered sugar until it is fully coated. This helps create the characteristic crinkle effect during baking.
  7. Arrange and Bake: Place the coated cookie balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading. Bake in the preheated oven for 9–11 minutes, or until the cookies are puffed and crinkled but still soft in the center.
  8. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps them set properly and avoids breaking.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring instead of liquid for more vibrant and intense colors.
  • Avoid overbaking to keep the cookie centers soft and chewy.
  • These cookies are ideal for patriotic holidays such as the 4th of July and Memorial Day, or any occasion celebrating red, white, and blue themes.
