Description

Old Fashioned Orange Cake is a moist and flavorful dessert made with fresh orange juice and zest. This classic cake is perfect for afternoon tea or as a light, citrusy finish to any meal.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in orange juice and orange zest.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with milk, mixing until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
