Description
Masala Chai, also known as Karak Chai, is a bold and spiced Indian tea made by simmering black tea with milk, sugar, and aromatic spices for a rich and comforting drink.

- 2 cups water
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons black tea leaves or 2 black tea bags
- 2–3 teaspoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- 3 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3–4 whole cloves
- 1 small piece of fresh ginger (about 1 inch), sliced
- 4–5 black peppercorns
Instructions
- In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil along with cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and peppercorns.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes to let the spices infuse.
- Add the milk and sugar to the pan and bring it back to a gentle boil.
- Add the black tea leaves or tea bags and simmer for another 2-3 minutes, depending on desired strength.
- Strain the tea into cups using a fine mesh strainer.
- Serve hot and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Use evaporated milk for a richer, more traditional Karak Chai flavor.
- Adjust spice levels to suit your taste—add fennel or star anise for variation.
- Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in the fridge and reheated.
