Description

This Lasagna Flatbread recipe offers a quick and delicious twist on classic lasagna flavors, layered on a crispy flatbread base. Combining creamy ricotta, melted mozzarella, savory sausage, and rich marinara sauce, it makes for a perfect family-friendly meal ready in under 40 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (half of an 8-ounce package)
  • 1 (3-ounce) package Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

Sausage Mixture

  • 1 pound sausage (Italian sausage preferred)
  • ½ (26-ounce) jar marinara sauce

Assembly

  • 6 flatbreads
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (remaining half of the 8-ounce package)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking the flatbreads once assembled.
  2. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, egg, and Italian seasoning. Mix thoroughly until smooth and well blended to create a creamy, flavorful cheese layer.
  3. Cook Sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is browned and no longer pink in the center, approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the skillet, then stir in the marinara sauce to combine well. Keep warm.
  4. Assemble Flatbreads: Lay out the flatbreads on a baking sheet. Spread an even layer of the cheese mixture over each flatbread. Spoon and evenly spread the sausage and marinara sauce mixture on top of the cheese layer. Finally, sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese over each flatbread.
  5. Bake: Place the assembled flatbreads in the preheated oven. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and starting to turn golden brown.
  6. Serve: Remove the flatbreads from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two. Serve hot and enjoy the savory lasagna-inspired flavors in a convenient, flatbread form.

Notes

  • You can substitute sausage with ground beef or turkey for a different flavor or leaner option.
  • Flatbreads can be store-bought or homemade; thicker flatbreads will yield a more substantial bite.
  • For extra veggies, add sliced mushrooms or spinach to the sausage mixture while cooking.
  • Ensure to drain sausage grease properly to avoid soggy flatbreads.
  • Leftover flatbreads store well in the fridge and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
