Description

Honey Garlic Green Beans are a quick and flavorful side dish featuring fresh green beans sautéed in butter and coated with a savory-sweet honey garlic sauce. This recipe balances the natural crispness of green beans with the richness of butter, the sweetness of honey, and the umami depth of soy sauce, elevated by garlic and a touch of crushed red pepper for subtle heat.

Ingredients

Scale

Green Beans

  • 2 pounds fresh green beans, cut into bite-sized pieces

Sauce and Seasoning

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 4 Tbsp honey
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Heat Butter and First Cook Green Beans: In a large skillet, melt the butter over high heat. Add the prepared green beans and cook, stirring constantly to prevent burning, for 2 to 3 minutes until they become slightly blistered but still crisp.
  2. Prepare and Add Sauce: While the beans are cooking, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes in a small bowl to create the sauce. Pour this mixture over the blistered green beans in the skillet.
  3. Sauté with Sauce: Continue cooking and stirring the green beans in the sauce for another 2 to 3 minutes until the beans are well coated and the sauce begins to slightly reduce and thicken, creating a glossy finish on the beans.

Notes

  • For extra heat, increase the crushed red pepper flakes to taste.
  • You can substitute soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos for a gluten-free version.
  • Trim the green beans before cooking for best texture and appearance.
  • Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
  • This dish pairs well with grilled meats or as a side for Asian-inspired meals.
