Units
Scale
- 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1‑inch cubes
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, grated (optional)
- Wooden or metal skewers
- Sesame seeds and chopped green onion for garnish
Instructions
- If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, hoisin, garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and ginger (if using).
- Reserve ¼ cup of the sauce for glazing later; pour the rest into a zip‑top bag or container with the chicken cubes.
- Marinate chicken for at least 30 minutes—or up to 2 hours—in the refrigerator.
- Preheat grill or broiler to medium‑high heat (about 400 °F/200 °C).
- Thread chicken cubes onto skewers, leaving a little space between pieces.
- Grill or broil for about 10‑12 minutes total, turning occasionally and brushing with reserved sauce during the last 4‑5 minutes, until chicken is cooked through and slightly charred.
- Transfer skewers to a serving plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
- Serve hot, with extra glaze on the side if desired.
Notes
- For added color and flavor, alternate chicken with bell pepper or pineapple chunks on skewers.
- Reserve marinade before adding raw chicken to use later as a glaze—don’t use raw marinade directly without cooking.
- Can be cooked under broiler or on stovetop grill pan if outdoor grill isn’t available.
- Skewers may be prepared ahead—marinate chicken and thread skewers a few hours in advance.
