Description

Sweet and savory grilled chicken skewers glazed in a sticky honey garlic sauce—perfect as a crowd-pleasing appetizer or easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1‑inch cubes
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, grated (optional)
  • Wooden or metal skewers
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onion for garnish

Instructions

  1. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, hoisin, garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and ginger (if using).
  3. Reserve ¼ cup of the sauce for glazing later; pour the rest into a zip‑top bag or container with the chicken cubes.
  4. Marinate chicken for at least 30 minutes—or up to 2 hours—in the refrigerator.
  5. Preheat grill or broiler to medium‑high heat (about 400 °F/200 °C).
  6. Thread chicken cubes onto skewers, leaving a little space between pieces.
  7. Grill or broil for about 10‑12 minutes total, turning occasionally and brushing with reserved sauce during the last 4‑5 minutes, until chicken is cooked through and slightly charred.
  8. Transfer skewers to a serving plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  9. Serve hot, with extra glaze on the side if desired.

Notes

  • For added color and flavor, alternate chicken with bell pepper or pineapple chunks on skewers.
  • Reserve marinade before adding raw chicken to use later as a glaze—don’t use raw marinade directly without cooking.
  • Can be cooked under broiler or on stovetop grill pan if outdoor grill isn’t available.
  • Skewers may be prepared ahead—marinate chicken and thread skewers a few hours in advance.
