Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Sauce
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite variety)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Meatball Mixture: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, breadcrumbs, egg, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are just combined, avoiding overmixing to keep the meatballs tender.
- Form and Bake Meatballs: Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and arrange them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through and develop a light golden color.
- Prepare the Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the barbecue sauce and honey to the skillet and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
- Coat Meatballs in Sauce: Once the meatballs are fully cooked, transfer them to the skillet with the simmering sauce. Toss the meatballs gently to ensure they are fully coated. Allow them to simmer in the sauce for 3 to 5 minutes until heated through and the sauce becomes sticky.
- Serve: Serve the honey barbecue chicken meatballs hot, either as a flavorful appetizer or over rice as a main dish. Enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey for chicken if preferred.
- For a spicier kick, add 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper to the meat mixture or use a spicy barbecue sauce instead.
