Description

This Homemade Blueberry Chia Seed Jam offers a quick, healthy, and naturally sweetened alternative to traditional jams. Made with fresh or frozen blueberries and thickened with nutrient-rich chia seeds, this jam minimizes added sugars while maximizing vibrant fruity flavor. Ideal for spreading on toast, mixing into yogurt, or topping oatmeal, it’s a versatile condiment perfect for a wholesome breakfast or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Jam Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Cook Blueberries: In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the blueberries and cook for about 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries burst and start to break down.
  2. Mash Berries: Using the back of a spoon or a potato masher, gently mash the berries to reach your desired consistency.
  3. Add Ingredients: Stir in the chia seeds, maple syrup or honey, lemon juice, and vanilla extract if using.
  4. Simmer: Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes, stirring frequently until the jam thickens.
  5. Cool and Store: Remove from heat and allow the jam to cool; it will continue to thicken as it sits. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness based on the ripeness of your blueberries.
  • This recipe can be made with other berries like raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries.
  • For a smoother texture, blend the jam after it has cooled.
