Description

Hawaiian Roll French Toast takes your favorite soft and slightly sweet rolls and turns them into the ultimate breakfast treat. They’re dipped in a cinnamon-vanilla custard, pan-fried until golden, and topped with powdered sugar, syrup, or fresh fruit. Simple, delicious, and always a hit!

Ingredients

Units Scale

12-count package of Hawaiian rolls (King’s Hawaiian brand or similar)

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tbsp sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)

2 tbsp butter (for cooking)

Powdered sugar (for serving)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Fresh fruit (optional)

Instructions

  • Prep the custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar (if using) until smooth.

  • Separate the rolls: Carefully pull the Hawaiian rolls apart so they stay whole but are no longer connected.

  • Dip the rolls: Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. While it heats, dip each roll in the custard mixture, turning to coat all sides. Let excess drip off.

  • Cook the French toast: Melt butter in the skillet. Add rolls in batches and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, turning gently until golden brown on all sides.

  • Serve: Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup. Add fresh berries or banana slices if you like!

Notes

  • You can slice the rolls in half and stuff with cream cheese or fruit preserves before dipping for a fun twist.

  • Make ahead tip: Mix the custard the night before to save time in the morning.

  • Use non-dairy milk and vegan butter for a dairy-free version.
