Description

Hanky Panky Appetizers are a retro party favorite featuring a savory mix of ground beef, sausage, and melted cheese served on cocktail rye bread—perfect for game days and gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 1/2 pound Velveeta cheese, cubed
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 24 slices cocktail rye bread

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  3. Reduce heat to low and stir in Velveeta cubes until melted and combined.
  4. Add garlic powder, red pepper flakes, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Stir well to incorporate.
  5. Arrange cocktail rye slices on a baking sheet. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the meat mixture onto each slice.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until heated through and slightly crispy on the edges.
  7. Serve hot as a crowd-pleasing appetizer.

Notes

  • Can be assembled ahead of time and frozen before baking—just bake from frozen for a few extra minutes.
  • Use hot sausage for a spicier version.
