- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork sausage (mild or spicy)
- 1/2 pound Velveeta cheese, cubed
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 24 slices cocktail rye bread
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
- Reduce heat to low and stir in Velveeta cubes until melted and combined.
- Add garlic powder, red pepper flakes, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Stir well to incorporate.
- Arrange cocktail rye slices on a baking sheet. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the meat mixture onto each slice.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until heated through and slightly crispy on the edges.
- Serve hot as a crowd-pleasing appetizer.
Notes
- Can be assembled ahead of time and frozen before baking—just bake from frozen for a few extra minutes.
- Use hot sausage for a spicier version.
- Try substituting cheddar or pepper jack cheese for different flavor profiles.
