Description

A quick and delicious take on the classic Philly Cheese Steak using lean ground beef, sautéed bell peppers, onions, and melted provolone cheese served in soft hoagie rolls. Perfect for a satisfying 25-minute meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat & Cheese

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced

Vegetables

  • 1 cup sliced bell peppers (mixed red and green)
  • 1 cup sweet onion, thinly sliced

Other Ingredients

  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Skillet: Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and drizzle in the olive oil to heat it up and prepare for sautéing.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Add the sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet and sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and fragrant.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: Push the sautéed vegetables to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Brown the beef by breaking it apart with a spatula, cooking thoroughly. Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic powder for flavor.
  4. Melt Cheese: Once the beef is fully cooked, layer the provolone cheese slices on top of the meat mixture. Cover the skillet briefly so the cheese melts evenly.
  5. Assemble Sandwiches: Fill each hoagie roll with the cheesy beef and vegetable mixture, then serve immediately while hot and melty.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat and grease.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a little Worcestershire sauce to the beef while cooking.
  • Substitute provolone with other melty cheeses like mozzarella or American cheese.
  • Spoon off extra grease from the skillet after cooking the beef if necessary.
  • Toast hoagie rolls lightly before assembling for added texture.
