Description

This Garlic Philly Cheesesteak Bread is a quick and flavorful twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Featuring tender flank steak, sautéed onions and bell peppers, melted provolone cheese, and a garlicky buttery French bread base, this recipe delivers a delicious, satisfying meal ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sandwich:

  • 1 fresh French bread loaf
  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 8 ounces provolone cheese
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced

For the Garlic Butter:

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Softened butter (approximately 4 tablespoons)
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the assembled sandwich.
  2. Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix softened butter with the minced garlic and a pinch of salt until well combined to create a flavorful garlic butter spread.
  3. Sear Steak: Season the flank steak with salt and pepper. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steak for about 3 minutes on each side to achieve a nice crust. Remove from heat and let the steak rest to retain its juices.
  4. Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions and bell peppers for approximately 5 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized, enhancing their sweetness and flavor.
  5. Prepare Bread: Slice the French bread loaf lengthwise down the middle. Spread the prepared garlic butter generously onto both halves of the bread to impart rich garlic flavor throughout.
  6. Assemble Sandwich: Thinly slice the rested flank steak and layer it over the garlic buttered bread halves. Top with the sautéed onions and bell peppers, then evenly layer the provolone cheese on top.
  7. Bake: Place the assembled sandwich halves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the edges of the bread turn golden brown and crisp.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños to the sautéed vegetables.
  • Letting the steak rest after searing helps keep it tender and juicy when sliced.
  • You can use a different type of cheese like mozzarella or American if preferred.
  • This sandwich is best enjoyed fresh out of the oven for optimal cheese melt and bread crispiness.
  • To save time, prepare garlic butter and sauté vegetables ahead of time.
