Ingredients
Scale
For the Croissant Melt
- 2 croissants (halved)
- 1/2 lb steak (such as ribeye or sirloin, thinly sliced)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 4 oz Brie cheese (sliced, rind optional)
- 1 small red onion (thinly sliced)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh arugula or baby spinach (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Cook the Steak: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season the thinly sliced steak generously with salt and black pepper. Place the steak slices in the hot skillet and sear for 2–3 minutes on each side until browned and just cooked through. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté Garlic and Onions: Reduce the skillet heat to medium-low. Add the unsalted butter and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds until the garlic is fragrant. Add the thinly sliced red onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until the onions soften and become translucent.
- Combine Steak with Garlic Butter-Onions: Return the cooked steak slices to the skillet. Toss everything together to coat the steak well in the garlic butter and softened onions, allowing flavors to meld briefly over low heat. Remove from heat.
- Assemble Croissant Melts: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). On a baking sheet, place the bottom halves of the croissants. Layer each bottom half with a generous portion of the garlic butter steak and onion mixture, then top each with sliced Brie cheese. Add some fresh arugula or baby spinach if desired. Place the croissant lids on top to complete the sandwich.
- Bake Until Melted and Golden: Bake the assembled croissant melts in the preheated oven for 5–7 minutes, or until the Brie cheese has melted completely and the croissants turn golden and crisp on the outside.
- Serve Warm: Remove from oven and serve immediately for the best warm, melty texture and rich flavor experience.
Notes
- Use leftover steak or roast beef to save time and skip the stovetop cooking step.
- Add a thin smear of Dijon mustard or fig jam inside the croissants before assembling for an elevated gourmet flavor.
- Substitute Brie with fontina or provolone cheese if preferred for a different cheese profile.
