Description

Crispy and golden fried wonton strips are a versatile snack perfect for enjoying on their own, topping salads, or accompanying soups. Made from thinly sliced wonton wrappers fried to perfection, these strips can be seasoned with salt for a savory treat or cinnamon sugar for a sweet variation.

Ingredients

Scale

Basic Ingredients

  • 1 package wonton wrappers (about 12 ounces)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying, about 2 inches in depth)
  • Salt (to taste)

Optional Sweet Version

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cut Wonton Wrappers: Stack a few wonton wrappers at a time and slice them into thin strips about 1/2 inch wide. Repeat this process until all wrappers are cut.
  2. Heat Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan and heat over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C), ideal for frying.
  3. Fry Wonton Strips: Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, carefully add a handful of wonton strips into the hot oil. Fry for 30 to 45 seconds, turning as necessary until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  4. Drain and Season: Remove the fried strips using a slotted spoon and place them onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt or the cinnamon sugar mixture for a sweet twist.
  5. Serve: Let the strips cool slightly. Serve as a crunchy snack, use as a salad topper, or add alongside soups for extra texture.

Notes

  • Fry wonton strips in small batches to maintain oil temperature and ensure crispiness.
  • Store cooled wonton strips in an airtight container for up to 3 days to keep them crispy.
  • Use a thermometer to monitor oil temperature for perfect frying results.
  • For a sweet version, evenly coat the hot strips with cinnamon sugar immediately after frying.
