Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 cup fresh or frozen corn kernels (thawed if frozen)
- 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened)
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1–2 jalapeños (seeded and finely diced)
- 1 green onion (thinly sliced)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Assembly and Frying
- 24 wonton wrappers
- Water for sealing
- Oil for frying (about 2 inches deep)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the corn, softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, finely diced jalapeños, thinly sliced green onion, garlic powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well blended to form a creamy, flavorful filling.
- Assemble the Wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the prepared filling into the center of the wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper gently with water to help seal, then fold into a triangle shape. Press firmly along the edges to ensure the filling is sealed inside and won’t leak during frying. Repeat this process for all 24 wontons.
- Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat over medium-high heat until the temperature reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy to achieve perfectly crispy wontons.
- Fry the Wontons: Carefully add the wontons in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes, turning once during cooking, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. This ensures even cooking and crispiness.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the fried wontons with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce for a delicious appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Adjust the number of jalapeños to suit your preferred spice level.
- For additional zest, add a squeeze of fresh lime juice to the filling mixture.
- Wontons can be assembled ahead of time and frozen before frying; fry directly from frozen, increasing the fry time by about one minute.
