Crust and Base
- 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
Toppings
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2–3 medium Roma tomatoes (thinly sliced)
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ cup fresh basil leaves (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get it ready for baking the squares.
- Prepare Baking Pan: Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Form Crust: Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan, ensuring to seal any seams to create a continuous, solid crust.
- Apply Garlic Oil: In a small bowl, mix together olive oil and minced garlic. Brush this flavorful mixture evenly over the crescent dough base.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough, providing a gooey layer beneath the tomatoes.
- Arrange Tomatoes & Season: Arrange the thinly sliced Roma tomatoes over the cheese in a single layer. Then sprinkle salt, black pepper, and dried oregano evenly atop the tomatoes to enhance the flavor.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Finish with Basil & Parmesan: Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chopped fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese over the hot squares.
- Cool & Serve: Allow the squares to cool slightly so they set, then cut into 8 squares and serve warm for the best taste.
Notes
- For richer flavor, substitute some mozzarella with provolone cheese or add a layer of pesto under the cheese.
- Heirloom or cherry tomatoes can be used instead of Roma tomatoes for added variety and sweetness.
