Ingredients
Scale
Pasta
- 12 oz bowtie pasta (farfalle)
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Seasonings and Sauces
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 3/4 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or coconut cream
Cheeses and Garnish
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the bowtie pasta until al dente according to package instructions. Drain well and set aside.
- Brown Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
- Sauté Aromatics: Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until the onion softens and becomes translucent.
- Add Seasonings: Stir in Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if using, mixing well to evenly distribute the flavors.
- Add Tomatoes and Broth: Pour in the diced tomatoes with their juices, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir to combine all ingredients and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Simmer to Thicken: Let the sauce simmer gently for about 10 minutes to thicken and allow the flavors to meld beautifully.
- Incorporate Cream: Stir in the heavy cream (or coconut cream) and simmer the sauce for another 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes creamy and smooth.
- Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked bowtie pasta to the skillet and toss thoroughly to coat the noodles evenly with the creamy beef sauce.
- Add Cheeses: Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the pasta mixture, stirring until the cheeses melt completely into the sauce, creating a luscious texture.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Garnish the pasta with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately while warm and comforting.
Notes
- For a dairy-free alternative, substitute heavy cream with full-fat coconut cream as noted.
- You can omit crushed red pepper flakes for a milder dish.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for best flavor and melting quality.
- Simmer sauce on low-medium heat to prevent burning or sticking.
- Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat nicely.
