Description

Classic Ambrosia Salad is a sweet, creamy fruit salad made with a mix of fresh fruit, marshmallows, coconut, and a fluffy whipped cream dressing. This nostalgic dish is perfect for potlucks, holiday gatherings, or as a refreshing side dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 can (15 oz) mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 cup seedless grapes, halved (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, beat the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. This will create your whipped cream dressing.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, marshmallows, and shredded coconut.
  3. Gently fold the whipped cream into the fruit mixture until everything is well combined.
  4. If desired, add halved grapes and maraschino cherries for extra color and flavor.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together and the salad to chill.
  6. Before serving, garnish with additional maraschino cherries or coconut if desired. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute the heavy cream with whipped topping for a lighter version of the salad.
  • If you prefer a more tart flavor, you can use fresh fruit like fresh pineapple or berries.
  • This salad can be made up to a day ahead, allowing it to sit overnight in the fridge for maximum flavor.
  • Feel free to add or remove ingredients based on your preferences—some people like to add chopped pecans or walnuts for extra crunch!
