Scale
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 slices of bread (preferably day-old or thick-cut)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Maple syrup (for serving)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)
- Fresh berries (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter, letting it melt and coat the surface.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated. Allow any excess mixture to drip off.
- Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Repeat with the remaining bread slices, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
- Serve the cinnamon French toast warm with maple syrup, a dusting of powdered sugar, and fresh berries, if desired.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can use whole milk or cream instead of skim milk.
- If you prefer a sweeter French toast, add a tablespoon of sugar to the egg mixture.
- Day-old or slightly stale bread works best for French toast as it absorbs the egg mixture without becoming soggy.
