Description

A rich, moist chocolate cake infused with Guinness stout, giving it a deep, malty flavor, and topped with a creamy cream cheese frosting for a decadent finish.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Guinness stout
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • For frosting: 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter and line a 9-inch springform pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, heat Guinness and butter over medium heat until butter melts. Remove from heat and whisk in cocoa and sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together sour cream, eggs, and vanilla. Stir into Guinness mixture.
  4. Whisk in flour and baking soda until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  7. To make frosting, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Add cream and beat until fluffy.
  8. Spread frosting on the cooled cake, mimicking the frothy head of a pint of Guinness.
