Description

This Chocolate Baked Oats recipe is a delicious and wholesome breakfast treat that combines the rich flavors of chocolate with hearty oats. Perfectly baked to a soft, cake-like texture, it makes for a nutritious start to your day or a comforting snack. With simple ingredients like eggs, oats, cocoa powder, and chocolate milk, this easy-to-make dish is delightfully satisfying and customizable with optional toppings such as yogurt, berries, or sea salt.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups chocolate milk
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter
  • â…“ cup Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups quick cooking oats
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½-1 tsp espresso powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt

Add-ins

  • ½-¾ cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the oats mixture to perfection.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the 2 large eggs thoroughly. Then add the chocolate milk, melted butter, Greek yogurt, maple syrup, and vanilla extract, mixing well to combine all wet ingredients evenly.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Add the quick cooking oats, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and espresso powder (if using) to the bowl. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
  4. Incorporate Chocolate Chips: Once the mixture is well combined, fold in the chocolate chips to distribute them evenly throughout the batter.
  5. Prepare Baking Dish: Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan to prevent sticking, then pour the chocolate oat mixture into the pan, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Bake until the edges and top are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean with slight moisture, which indicates it’s perfectly cooked.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and let the baked oats cool for approximately 10 minutes to set further. Slice into portions and optionally top with flaky sea salt, yogurt, or fresh berries before serving.

Notes

  • Espresso powder is optional but enhances the richness of the chocolate flavor.
  • Use quick cooking oats for best texture; rolled oats will change baking time and texture.
  • Allow the baked oats to cool slightly before slicing to ensure clean portions.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute chocolate milk with a plant-based milk and use a dairy-free yogurt alternative.
  • For extra indulgence, sprinkle flaky sea salt on top after baking to contrast the sweetness.
