Description

This Chicken Cordon Bleu Stromboli is a delicious twist on the classic sandwich, featuring layers of tender cooked chicken breast, savory deli ham, and melted Swiss cheese all wrapped in a crispy baked pizza dough. Enhanced with a flavorful Dijon and mayonnaise spread and seasoned with garlic powder and Italian herbs, this stromboli makes a perfect hearty main course that’s easy to prepare and delicious to share.

Ingredients

Scale

Stromboli Base

  • 1 refrigerated pizza dough (13.8 oz)

Filling

  • 1½ cups cooked chicken breast (sliced or shredded)
  • 6 slices deli ham
  • 1½ cups shredded Swiss cheese

Spread and Seasoning

  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

Finishing

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter (optional, for brushing)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dough: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the refrigerated pizza dough into a rectangle shape.
  2. Make the Spread and Apply: In a small bowl, combine the Dijon mustard and mayonnaise until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges to allow for sealing.
  3. Layer the Fillings: Arrange the deli ham slices evenly over the spread on the dough. Next, distribute the cooked chicken breast over the ham, followed by a generous layer of shredded Swiss cheese. Sprinkle the garlic powder and Italian seasoning evenly on top to enhance flavor.
  4. Roll and Seal: Starting from one of the long edges, carefully and tightly roll the dough into a log, ensuring the fillings stay in place. Pinch the edges to seal the stromboli securely and prevent filling leakage during baking.
  5. Prepare for Baking: Place the rolled stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top generously with the beaten egg, and optionally brush melted butter for a golden finish. Make a few slits on top to allow steam to escape as it bakes.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the stromboli is golden brown and cooked through. Once baked, let it cool for about 5 minutes.
  7. Serve: Slice the stromboli into portions, garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce such as honey mustard or ranch.

Notes

  • Using rotisserie chicken is an easy shortcut to save prep time.
  • Feel free to add extra cheese or substitute Swiss for provolone for variation.
  • Serve with honey mustard or ranch dressing for a perfect dipping experience.
