Description

This Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole delivers all the classic flavors of the beloved chicken cordon bleu in a comforting, easy-to-make casserole form. Featuring tender cooked chicken, diced ham, Swiss cheese, and a creamy Dijon sauce topped with buttery Ritz cracker crumbs, it’s a perfect family-friendly meal baked to golden perfection in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein Mixture

  • 4 cups cooked chopped chicken
  • 8 oz diced ham

Sauce

  • 1½ cups sour cream
  • 1½ cups grated Swiss cheese
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can unsalted cream of chicken soup

Topping

  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 sleeve Ritz crackers, crushed

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Lightly spray a 9×9-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix the Casserole Filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked chopped chicken, diced ham, sour cream, grated Swiss cheese, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, and the can of unsalted cream of chicken soup. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly mixed.
  3. Transfer to Baking Dish: Spread the chicken and ham mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top to create an even layer.
  4. Prepare and Add Cracker Topping: In a small bowl, combine the crushed Ritz crackers with the melted butter, making sure all crumbs are coated. Sprinkle this buttery cracker mixture evenly over the top of the casserole filling.
  5. Bake the Casserole: Place the baking dish uncovered in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is hot and bubbly throughout.

Notes

  • Use leftover cooked chicken or rotisserie chicken for a quick meal.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of black pepper or a teaspoon of dried herbs to the casserole mixture.
  • To make the dish lower in fat, substitute light sour cream and reduced-fat cheese.
  • Let the casserole rest 5 minutes after baking to set before serving.
  • Serve with a fresh green salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced dinner.
