Description

Cheese-Stuffed Potato Balls are crispy on the outside and filled with creamy, melty cheese on the inside—perfect as a snack, appetizer, or party treat with a golden, crunchy coating.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (firm and cooled)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions or parsley (optional)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil, for deep frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix mashed potatoes with garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and green onions or parsley if using.
  2. Take a small portion of the mixture, flatten it in your palm, and place a cube or pinch of cheese in the center.
  3. Wrap the potato around the cheese and roll into a smooth ball. Repeat with remaining mixture.
  4. Roll each ball in flour, dip in beaten egg, and coat with breadcrumbs.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the balls in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with ketchup, aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the mashed potatoes are firm and not too moist to help them hold shape.
  • Chill the potato balls for 15–20 minutes before frying to prevent breaking.
  • Try different cheese fillings like gouda, pepper jack, or cream cheese for variety.
