- 2 cups mashed potatoes (firm and cooled)
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions or parsley (optional)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil, for deep frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix mashed potatoes with garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and green onions or parsley if using.
- Take a small portion of the mixture, flatten it in your palm, and place a cube or pinch of cheese in the center.
- Wrap the potato around the cheese and roll into a smooth ball. Repeat with remaining mixture.
- Roll each ball in flour, dip in beaten egg, and coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the balls in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot with ketchup, aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Ensure the mashed potatoes are firm and not too moist to help them hold shape.
- Chill the potato balls for 15–20 minutes before frying to prevent breaking.
- Try different cheese fillings like gouda, pepper jack, or cream cheese for variety.
