Scale
Bread and Oil
- 4 slices crusty bread (like sourdough or ciabatta)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Toppings
- 2 large ripe tomatoes, sliced
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the skillet or grill pan: Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat to get it ready for toasting the bread.
- Prepare the bread slices: Brush both sides of each slice of bread with olive oil to ensure they toast evenly and develop a golden crust.
- Toast the bread: Place the bread slices in the hot skillet, cooking for 2 to 3 minutes per side until each side is golden and crisp.
- Assemble the toasts: Remove the toasted bread from the heat and immediately layer each slice first with slices of fresh mozzarella, then with tomato slices.
- Season and garnish: Sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over the toppings, add fresh basil leaves on top, and drizzle with balsamic glaze for a burst of flavor.
- Serve: Enjoy the Caprese Toasts immediately while the bread is warm and crisp for the best texture and taste.
Notes
- For extra flavor, rub the toasted bread with a garlic clove before adding the toppings.
- For a heartier option, add mashed avocado or a layer of pesto under the mozzarella cheese.
