- 1–2 garlic cloves (minced)
Flavorings
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill or mint (or both)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon dried mint (optional)
Optional
- 2–4 tablespoons cold water to thin (as desired)
- Crushed ice (optional for serving)
- Extra olive oil and herbs for garnish
Instructions
- Whisk the Yogurt: In a mixing bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth and creamy to form a consistent base for the dish.
- Add Cucumber and Garlic: Stir in the finely diced or grated cucumber along with the minced garlic to infuse fresh flavors.
- Incorporate Oils and Herbs: Add the extra virgin olive oil, fresh chopped dill or mint, and salt. Mix thoroughly to combine all the ingredients evenly.
- Adjust Consistency: Gradually add cold water a tablespoon at a time until you reach your preferred consistency, whether thicker for a dip or thinner for a cold soup.
- Chill: Refrigerate the cacık for at least 15–30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and serve it well chilled.
- Garnish and Serve: Before serving, drizzle extra olive oil on top and sprinkle additional fresh herbs or dried mint if desired. Optionally, add crushed ice for a refreshing touch. Serve cold as a side dish, dip, or appetizer.
Notes
- Cacık is similar to tzatziki but often served thinner and sometimes with crushed ice for a refreshing twist.
- You can use Greek yogurt for a creamier texture or thin it with water to achieve the classic consistency.
- For extra flavor, stir in a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.
