- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until it turns golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat immediately.
- Stir in granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and salt into the browned butter while still warm. Mix until combined.
- Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Fold in flour and baking powder until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips if using.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Cool completely in the pan before slicing.

- Don’t overbake to keep the brownies fudgy.
- Chill the brownies for cleaner cuts and firmer texture.
- Brown butter adds a nutty flavor; watch closely to avoid burning.
