Description

A comforting and easy-to-make Broccoli Casserole combining tender broccoli, creamy chicken soup, sour cream, and sharp cheddar cheese, topped with a crunchy stuffing mix, baked to golden perfection. Perfect as a hearty side dish for family dinners or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Broccoli Mixture

  • 1 (32-oz) package broccoli cuts, thawed
  • 1 (10.5-oz) can unsalted cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper, or to taste
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Topping

  • 1 (6-oz) box stuffing mix (uncooked)
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Mix Broccoli Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the thawed broccoli cuts, unsalted cream of chicken soup, sour cream, onion powder, garlic salt, pepper, and shredded cheddar cheese. Stir everything together until the mixture is evenly combined and the cheese is well distributed.
  3. Assemble Casserole: Spread the broccoli mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  4. Add Stuffing Topping: Sprinkle the uncooked stuffing mix evenly over the broccoli mixture. Then pour the chicken broth evenly across the top of the stuffing. The broth will moisten the stuffing as it bakes, creating a crispy and flavorful topping.
  5. Bake the Casserole: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the casserole is heated through, bubbly around the edges, and the stuffing topping is golden brown and crisp.
  6. Serve: Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the casserole to set slightly for easier portioning.

Notes

  • Use thawed broccoli to ensure even cooking and prevent excess moisture in the casserole.
  • If you prefer a vegetarian casserole, substitute the cream of chicken soup with cream of mushroom soup and use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
  • For a lower sodium version, choose low-sodium soup and broth and adjust seasoning accordingly.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • Feel free to add cooked chicken pieces for a protein boost and to make it a complete meal.
