Description

Bowtie Pasta Ziti is a hearty, comforting baked pasta dish made with bowtie (farfalle) pasta, rich tomato sauce, Italian seasonings, and layers of melted cheese. It’s a fun twist on classic baked ziti, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 oz bowtie (farfalle) pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara or pasta sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook bowtie pasta in salted water according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Add ground beef or sausage and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–10 minutes.
  6. In a large bowl, combine cooked pasta, meat sauce, ricotta, and 1 cup of mozzarella. Stir to mix.
  7. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or make it vegetarian by omitting meat and adding sautéed veggies.
  • Make ahead and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Leftovers freeze well for up to 2 months.
