- 12 oz bowtie (farfalle) pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara or pasta sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook bowtie pasta in salted water according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
- Add ground beef or sausage and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine cooked pasta, meat sauce, ricotta, and 1 cup of mozzarella. Stir to mix.
- Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh basil or parsley if desired.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or make it vegetarian by omitting meat and adding sautéed veggies.
- Make ahead and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
- Leftovers freeze well for up to 2 months.
