Description

A decadent and delightful Berry Croissant Bake that transforms day-old croissants into a luscious breakfast or brunch dish. Combined with fresh mixed berries and a creamy custard, this bake is golden, rich, and perfect for special occasions or a comforting morning treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 4 large croissants (preferably day-old)

Fruits

  • 1½ cups mixed fresh berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries)

Custard Mixture

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Optional Toppings & Serving

  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Maple syrup or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×9-inch or similar-sized baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange the croissants: Slice the croissants in half lengthwise or tear them into large chunks and place them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Add the berries: Scatter the mixed fresh berries evenly over and around the croissants, distributing the fruit throughout the dish.
  4. Make the custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  5. Pour custard over croissants and berries: Evenly pour the custard mixture over the croissants and berries, pressing down lightly to help the bread soak up the liquid.
  6. Soak the mixture: Let the dish sit for 10–15 minutes at room temperature to allow the croissants to fully absorb the custard. For a hands-off approach, cover and refrigerate overnight to enhance flavor and texture.
  7. Bake: Place the dish uncovered in the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the custard is fully set and the top is beautifully golden brown.
  8. Cool and serve: Let it cool slightly before serving. Optionally dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup or whipped cream for a decadent finish.

Notes

  • Frozen berries can be used if fresh are not available; no need to thaw before baking.
  • For extra flavor and texture, sprinkle lemon zest or sliced almonds on top before baking.
  • This dish is excellent for brunch, holiday mornings, or as a comforting breakfast-for-dinner option.
