Description

Bang Bang Shrimp is a crispy, lightly battered shrimp appetizer tossed in a creamy, sweet, and spicy sauce made with mayonnaise, Thai chili sauce, and sriracha. It’s a crowd-pleasing dish perfect for parties or weeknight dinners.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • For the sauce: 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 12 tsp sriracha (to taste)
  • Optional: chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, soak shrimp in buttermilk for 10–15 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, and sriracha. Set aside.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Remove shrimp from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture, coating well.
  6. Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Toss hot shrimp in the prepared sauce until well coated.
  8. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust the sriracha for more or less heat.
  • Serve over lettuce or rice for a full meal.
  • Use an air fryer for a lighter version.
