- 2 cans (15 ounces each) of navy beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped (optional)
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (optional, for extra flavor)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the navy beans, onion, and bell pepper (if using).
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, maple syrup (or honey), Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and garlic powder.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the beans and stir gently to combine. Add crumbled bacon if using and stir again.
- Transfer the bean mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and slightly thickened.
- Let the baked beans cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Serve as a side dish to BBQs, grilled meats, or burgers.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add a dash of hot sauce or a small amount of chili powder for a little heat.
- If you want a vegetarian version, omit the bacon or use plant-based bacon.
- These beans can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for later use.
