Ingredients
Scale
Proteins
- 1 package (10 ounces) bacon
- 8 large eggs
Bakery
- 6 to 7 large croissants (already baked croissants, not dough)
Dairy
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese (divided)
- 1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese (divided)
Seasonings
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Garnish
- 3 Tablespoons chopped chives
Instructions
- Prepare the bacon: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a large sheet pan with foil and arrange the bacon strips in a single layer. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until crispy. Carefully remove bacon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease. Chop into bite-size pieces and set aside.
- Toast the croissants: Lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. Tear the croissants into small pieces and spread them evenly in the prepared pan. Toast the croissant pieces in the oven for 10 minutes to develop a slight crispness.
- Mix the egg custard: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and half of each shredded cheddar cheese (1/2 cup white cheddar and 1/2 cup mild cheddar) until well combined.
- Assemble the bake: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the toasted croissant pieces in the baking pan. Sprinkle the chopped bacon evenly over the top, followed by the remaining shredded cheeses.
- Bake the casserole: You may bake immediately or cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until the eggs are fully set and the cheese is melted and slightly golden.
- Serve and garnish: Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped chives before serving. Enjoy warm for a delicious hearty breakfast.
Notes
- Use already baked croissants, not raw dough, for best texture and flavor.
- To prepare ahead, assemble the casserole, cover tightly, and refrigerate overnight. Bake fresh in the morning.
- Feel free to substitute cheddar with your favorite cheese blends.
- For a smoky twist, use smoked bacon or add smoked paprika to the egg mixture.
- Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
