Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan is a healthier, yet equally delicious, version of the classic dish. Crispy breaded chicken topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, all made in the air fryer for a quick and easy meal.

- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Olive oil spray
- Fresh basil (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C).
- Set up a breading station: Place the flour in one shallow dish, the beaten egg in another, and the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a third dish.
- Dip each chicken breast first in the flour, coating it evenly, then in the egg, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the breadcrumbs.
- Spray both sides of the breaded chicken breasts with olive oil spray to ensure a crispy texture.
- Place the chicken breasts in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they are not overlapping. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and is golden brown and crispy.
- Once the chicken is cooked, spoon 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce over each chicken breast, and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Air fry for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove the chicken from the air fryer and garnish with fresh basil, if desired. Serve immediately with pasta or a side salad.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture for a little heat.
- Use any marinara sauce of your choice, or make your own for a fresher taste.
- If you don’t have Italian-style breadcrumbs, you can use regular breadcrumbs and add extra dried herbs like oregano and basil.
